All about us
The Museum was founded in 2018 as a CIC (A community interest
company, registered with Companies House - no. 11567980)
We are totally reliant on the generous support of our community and volunteers. member organisations, supporters and donors to meet the ever-increasing demand for our
services and help.
The museum is funded from the café, shop, and fundraising. We do not receive any
money from Flintshire County Council or Holywell Town Council for the running of
the building. We do receive grants from both when an application is successful which
amount to a few hundred pounds. We only have one part time paid employee. The rest are volunteers.
The Museum is a place where items of historical interest and objects pertinent to the
history and development of Holywell and its surrounding villages are preserved for display
and interaction by our community. This includes photographs and documents showing the
development of the area through its people and industries. The Museum also houses
‘hardware’ including cast iron signs, chapel crockery, vintage electronics, school uniforms
and medical paraphernalia. We strive to cater for all ages, providing a glimpse of days gone
by. We have items dating from the stone age up to the present day. The Museum is
extremely lucky to have so much support from the community who donate items for display
telling their history.
Holywell and its surrounding area have a place to relive memories, learn and be
educated about the past – a past involving school, work, shopping, or leisure. The
Community is proud of the history of the town and believes preservation of the past, present
and the future is vitally important. .
Running alongside the heritage aspect of the Museum is the vitally important
